Dear Everybody,
I am totally bummed about the following:
1. My mom
2. My birthday
3. My lack of Vin Diesel and/or Seth Green
4. Um.. well that's mostly it.
But seriously, that Vin Diesel thing is just ridiculous at this point. Do you know anyone else that blogs about him more than me? I'm totally devoted and stuff!
I decided though, instead of wallowing in misery, I would tell the Awesome Thing That Happened Last Week.
Okay, SO! Last week we had this photo shoot thingie at work because we're badass. I'll tell you about it if you ask me, but you know I don't blog work details. Cause of all the firing I don't want to happen. Anyway, there was also this videographer dude that came to shoot a video of us being photographed. (oh, you heard me. That's how cool we are. They don't only want to photograph us, they want to VIDEO TAPE US BEING PHOTOGRAPHED.)
So, I'm walking by Daphne's office and she calls me in there to meet this guy named Ray, aka, Videographer Dude. She then says the most magic words in all of Magic Land.
"Ray does work for Battlestar Galactica."
"OOoooooo Battlestar!", I said.
And then we were off. Dana stops by to see what we're talking about, and Daphne tries to introduce her to Ray two or three times, to no avail. We couldn't stop doing that reallyfasttalkingthing. Geeks unite!
He said he did the majority of his work on the Pegasus (omg! I am such a nerd for being impressed by that! word!) and that he was in the pilot movie as one of the extras getting blown up (he totally demonstrated, it was very cute) and that he was going to get to be in the new Razor series as a fighter pilot. He also worked for Star Trek, which he didn't like nearly as much as BSG (obviously) and he name dropped Jamie Bamber (Apollo) but was quick to add that though they do talk in email sometimes, it's not like.. all the time.
So what? If you got an email from Jamie Bamber, you are awesome as far as I'm concerned. Especially if you are in my office building telling me this to my face. I'm easily impressed. Can we be friends now?
We got to talking about how no one takes BSG seriously because it's on Sci-Fi, even though Sci-Fi can be really cool sometimes. Then, right as I'm about to mention the Sci-Fi Original movie, Ice Spiders? He brings it up first.
Now how often does that caliber of geek just HAPPEN??
After we talked, I had to go back to work, and Dana kept telling me how it was like no one else was in the room. She was totally marrying me off to this guy, but what she didn't understand was geek culture. You walk around all day trying to act like a normal person, so when someone says the words to unlock your inner geek, you sort of just get weird. And excited on a level that frightens others.
I did not get to talk to him again the rest of the day, because we were really busy. I kept meaning to go out and find him again and chit-chat, but re: above? where I'm a geek? I can't talk to boys. Unless they're gay. (Or maybe married, because then they are Not for Me, and might as well be gay for all the good they're gonna do me) So I just let it be. He left, and I finished some emails, and hated myself cause I'm so shy. I could totally have had more conversation to impress my nerd friends with, but noooo!
Dana and I head out to the parking lot a little while later, and lo, there is Ray. He's not only still hanging around his car, he's totally parked right next to me! So I can even look marginally cool. I was walking over here anyway, you know. It's not like I had to go out of my way.
I almost chickened out and just got in my car, cause he's looking at something in the trunk, but then I decide to get brave. I told him it was nice to meet him and if he had anymore cool BSG news, to email Daphne so she could tell me. Not to email me directly, of course, because I'm way too awesome to read my own emails. I need someone to proof them before I get them to make sure they are worthy. (.....)
He says he gets the episodes early as a perk of the job, but then follows that with news that they are encrypted or some such. As IF I'd ask him to forward them to me. I'm lame, but I'm not a complete social tard. I DID ask if he could maaaaybe email me and tell me what happened on the episodes? And he was all "Yeah, I think I could do that."
Yay!
Then he told me secrets he knows about from what he's seen so far! I totally know stuff that other people might not know! Especially if they don't have a little thing called "The Internet". But I still feel cool, because I know it from someone that works for the show, and you... you have to GOOGLE it. So... eat THAT!
I'm not posting the spoilers, though, but if you ask me I will tell you. For a quarter.
And that is the awesome thing that happened to me last week.
Love,
Cookie
